Two on duty journalists were physically assaulted by a crazy traffic sergeant in front the Motsya Bhaban (Fishery Building) in the city yesterday. Sources said, Traffic Sergeant Mustain intercepted the motorbike of two journalists Nasir Uddin, Staff Photographer of The Daily Manabjamin and Jibon Ghosh, Staff Photographer of The Daily Janakantha at 4:15pm, while they were going to perform their professional duties.
The sergeant misbehaved with them and at one stage assaulted them mercilessly in presence of many people. Hearing the news, agitation has spread out among the journalists of different media. Instantly, the journalists demanded for exemplary punishment to the police sergeant.
While contacted, Traffic South Zone Deputy Commissioner Rifat Rahman Shamim told The Asian Age that the Traffic Sergeant Mustain has already been closed to the Police Line centering the issue. Besides, senior officers of the department have already visited the stop. Necessary action would be taken against him after completion of investigation in this regard, they said.
