Travelettes of Bangladesh, a platform that aims to promote the female travelers all over the country where girls are not allowed to travel alone. Sakia Haque, the founder of the group, recalled what prompted her to initiate this. She had to wait long for her female friends to travel with her as she was not allowed to go alone like other girls in our country. In 2014, she could not wait any longer and thought of taking the initiative alone.
Finally her dreams came true two years later. On November 27, 2016, Travelettes of Bangladesh started its journey with the girl tourists, who love to travel. There are more than 13,000 members in the Facebook group of Travels of Bangladesh. Their group link- https://www.facebook.com/ groups/1138612086175048/. Travelettes means 'Female travelers'. The organization has already organized 18 tours all over the country.
Any girl traveler can join this group. There is no age limit. Any female who is passionate about travelling can join the group and can be part of the adventurous journey. The members of the group visited various spectacular places in the districts of Cox's Bazar, Tangail, Mymensingh, Gazipur, Kuakata and Rangamati. The group has given the opportunity to explore the beautiful Bangladesh for women, irrespective of age. There are also 70-year-old women from the sixth grade students.
To encourage travelling among females the group has also arranged a national photography competition and exhibition that was open for both male and female. The photography exhibition titled 'Travelers and Travels Photography' was held at the Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy from March 30 to April 1 this year. About the future plan, the organization's founding member Sakia Haque said, "We will organize regular tours. Now we're working on publishing a magazine based on women's travel articles."
Alongside arranging tours to various places, the organization is now running another program called 'Women's Eye in Bangladesh'. Under this program, four members of the organization are traveling to the country's all 64 districts riding on two motorbikes to make awareness among students. So far they have visited 12 districts in three parts.
