Ashuganj got freedom in Liberation War today


Ashuganj has a unique glorious role in the great liberation war of that year. Ashuganj is one of the few factions of the joint forces that have fought with the Pak army in Bangladesh. Many people were injured in this war, including martyrs i.e Major Nasim, commander of the 5th East Bengal Regiment, was shot dead.

Among those whose contributions are most discussed in the Ashuganj Liberation War are Lt Col KM Sufiullah, Major Nasim, Captain Matin, Lt Helal Morshed, Captain S A, Bhuiya and many others. Several monuments have already been erected in Ashuganj in honor of the War of Liberation. On this day in 1971, the Mukti Bahini and the Allied forces defeated the Pak army and jointly captured them.

The then Lieutenant. Colonel KM Safiullah, Lt. Md. Helal Morshed Khan, the well-organized leadership of the heroes like Major Ainuddin and Major Nasir, freed Ashuganj from the clutches of the Pak army junta. Subedar Major Sirajul Islam, Lance Naik Abdul Hai, Sipahi Kafil Uddin, freedom fighter Abu Taher and many others were martyred in the war with Pak invaders during the liberation of Ashuganj.

It is learned that the Pakistani invaders entered Ashuganj and killed many unarmed innocent people and occupied Ashuganj Bazar, Power House and Silo Godown and established a strong position. Ashuganj established temporary headquarters of Pak Infantry Division in Silo. People from Ashuganj, Bhairab and Brahmanbaria were brought here and tortured inhumanly and tortured to death.

The Ashuganj silo was a steep slope. At Ashuganj, Pak army was massacred and tortured at five points. Of these, two and a half places are Bhabanipur and Ashuganj silo. In the history of the War of Liberation the battle against Ashuganj on December 8 and 9 was a fierce battle. In this battle, 60/70 soldiers, including 4 Allied tanks, were martyred and more than half a hundred were wounded.

In this face-to-face battle, about one and a half hundred soldiers died on the enemy side. Continued attacks of allies and freedom fighters weakened the position of the Pak army and at one time on the night of December 10, the Pak army fled from Ashuganj.

At that time, the Bhairab Railway Bridge over the Meghna River blew up part of the Ashuganj side with dynamite. In the meantime, the freedom fighters flew the red-green flag of Bangladesh in the sky and Ashuganj was completely liberated on 11 December. During this time the local people staged a procession of victory.

Mohammad Iqbal Hossain, commander of the freedom fighters of Ashuganj upazila of Brahmanbaria district, said that the Pak army had established a temporary headquarters 14 divisions at Ashuganj silo. At Ashuganj, Pak army was massacred and tortured at five points. In the history of the War of Liberation the battle against Ashuganj on December 8 and 9 was a fierce battle.

On the other side, another monument has been erected at the entrance to the thermal power plant.The local freedom fighters demanded the preservation and preservation of these mass graves and burial grounds of Ashuganj.

The Ashuganj Free Day Celebration Committee has taken various programs throughout the day on December 11 to celebrate the day. The programs adopted include rallies in the morning, afternoon talks and interesting cultural events.
