uAA Correspondent The government has reappointed renowned economist Dr Zaid Bakht as the chairman of Agrani Bank Limited, the country's 2nd largest nationalized commercial bank, for the next three years. Financial Institutions Division of the Ministry of Finance has issued a circular in this regard on December 7, 2020, said a press release. He has been appointed as the chairman of the bank for the consecutive 3rd term, it added. Dr Zaid Bakht is also a famous researcher in the field of development economics with special focus on trade, macroeconomic management, industry, private sector, SME development and issues related to physical infrastructure. He has made a great contribution to national-level policy formulation in the field of industry, national income accounting practices, development planning and public expenditure. He served Bangladesh Institute of Development Studies (BIDS) as the Research Director until 2014. He has vast experience in leading major research projects of the government of Bangladesh, World Bank, ILO, ADB, ESCAP, EU, FAO, UNCTAD, and Japan Bank for International Cooperation (JBIC). In his academic career, Dr Zaid Bakht obtained his graduation in Economics from Dhaka University. Later, he completed MSc and PhD in Economics from Cornell University, USA. Dr Zaid Bakht is the son of the late Dr Jamshed Bakht and Zebunnessa Khatun. In his personal life, he is married to Halima Hossain and blessed with a son and a daughter.
