Habibur Rahman's drive to preserve 'Thar' language

The gypsy people in Bangladesh are known as Bede tribe. They are Hindus by their cultural traits. The gypsy people are very brave and painstaking. They look like Bengali people by physical complexion and size. They speak in two languages-Bengali and Thar.

Thar language does not have any alphabet. It is a colloquial and oral language. Ordinary people do not understand this language. There has not been much research work on this language.

According to linguistic scholars, the speakers of Thar language entered Bangladesh during 1638. Deputy Inspector General (DIG) of Police Habibur Rahman has penned a full-fledged book on Thar language.  Habibur Rahman is a godlike figure to gypsies and transgender people. On top of keeping up law and order, Habibur Rahman also works for the welfare of gypsies and transgender people. Habibur Rahman's book "Thar: Bede Jonogosthir Bhasha" is on the verge of appearing in the ongoing Ekushey Book Fair. He has made comprehensive references to the Thar language in his book.  This book is scheduled to be launched at a program in Bangla Academy on 22 February at 3 pm.

Author and educationist Syed Manzoorul Islam will unwrap this book. Poet Kamal Chowdhury will attend the program as the chief guest. Poet Minar Mansur and Professor Dr Muhammad Asaduzzaman of Dhaka University will be present as special guests. It will be presided over by famed writer Selina Hossain.
