Mahbubul Alam re-elected CCCI president Mahabubul Alam,,Nurun Newaj Selim,,Sayed Jamal Ahmed

Mahabubul Alam has been re-elected as President of Chittagong Chamber of Commerce and Industry CCCI on Monday.  Mohammad Nurun Newaj Selim, was re-elected  Senior Vice-President and Sayed Jamal Ahmed, Vice-President of the chamber for the term 2017 and 2018, according to sources.

The elections to three- presidium members of the CCCI, the highest apex body of the businessmen of the port city held on Monday with the votes of the newly elected 24 directors of the organization.The board unanimously elected, the new leadership who has been discharging duties in the same posts since 2013-14. Mahabubul Alam is elected for third consecutive times.

The newly elected board of directors of CCCI was presided over by Habibul Haque. Mahabubul Alam, was born at Gohira village under Raojan upazila in Chittagong in 1958. He obtained his degree from Chittagong University and involved with student politics during his student life.

 He was also the president of Khatoongonj Trade Association for several times and Senior Vice-President and Vice President of CCCI earlier.  He is the chairman of M Alam Group.

On the other hand, Mohammad Nurun Newaj Selim, Senior Vice-President of CCCI hailed from a respectable Muslim family of Chagolnaiya in Feni.  His father Moulovi Shamsul Karim Majumdar is a respectable personality and dedicated social worker. He is elected as Senior Vice-President for three consecutive times. He was the chairman of National Credit and Commerce Bank for four times. He was the former chairman of NCCB Securities, Electro Mart Limited, Trade International Marketing Limited. He was also involved with social activities.

However, the newly elected Vice-President Sayed Jamal Ahamed was born in the village Doulatpur of Anwara Upazila of Chittagong. He obtained graduation from Chittagong University. After completion of his study, Sayed Jamal Ahamed engaged himself in business. He is the Chairman of country's leading Aramit Group. He is also the Director of North West Security Ltd. He is associated with different education and social welfare organizations.

It may be mentioned that the 24 posts of directors of the CCCI were elected unopposed on May 20. After withdrawal, 24 nominations from  4 categories ordinary members group, associate group, trade group and town association group remained which were equal to the number of seats to be filled up by the election. The Election Board declared the candidates elected uncontested as directors of the chamber for the period of 2017 & 2018.

The elected 12 directors from ordinary class are: Mohammad Nurun Newaj Selim, A K M Akter Hossain, Kamal Mostafa Chowdhury, Mohammad Jahedul Haque, Anisujjaman Chowdhury Rony, Mainuddin Ahmed Mintu, Anjan Shekhor Das, Mujibur Rahman, Sarwar Hasan Jamil, Mohammed Rakibur Rahman Tutul, Hasnat Mohammed Obaida Marshal, Mohammed Shahriar Jahan.

From associate class six directors are-  M A Motaleb, Mahabubul Alam, Jahirul Islam Chowdhury Alamgir,  Mohammed Ohid Seraj Swapon, Sayed Sagir Ahamed, S M Shamsuddin.

Three directors from town association are- Mohammed Habibul Haque, Mohammad Jaharul Alam and Abdul Manan and three directors from trade group are- Syed Jamal Ahmed, Mahabubul Haque Chowdhury Babor and Omar Hajjaj.
