Pranab pays tribute to Pritilata Waddedar CCCI President Mahbubul Alam presenting a flower bouquet to Pranab Mukharjee ,a former president of India

Former Indian Presi-dent Pranab Mukherjee paid rich tributes to the memory of anti-British revolutionary Pritilata Waddedar while visiting European club in city's Pahartali area on Wednesday  morning.

He placed wreath at the monument of Pritilata and went round different rooms of the aesthetically wood-made European Club. Earlier on his arrival, Chairman of the Parliamentary standing committee on Ministry of Railway ABM Fazle Karim Chowdhury, Deputy Commissioner of Chitta-gong Zillur Rahman Chow-dhury and high officials of railway eastern zone received Mukharjee with bouquet.

The then British Govern-ment established Euro-pean Union club which was attacked by a group of Pritilata Waddedar who later embraced martyrdom by consuming cyanide to evade arrest by the British army. Mukharjee also witnessed the arms depot used by British army, located beneath the wood made structure.

Before leaving Chitta-gong for Dhaka, former Indian President visited the British police Armoury in city's Dampara police line area which was looted by the group of anti British revolutionary Masterda Surya Sen. Commissioner of Chitta-gong Metropol-itan Police Iqbal Bahar received Mukherjee.

Assistant commissioner of Chittagong Metropoli-tan Police Devduth Muzu-mdar briefed the former Indian President on the glorious history of the British Armoury looting incident on April 30 in 1930, popularly known as Chittagong Youth revolt.

Mukherjee left Chitta-gong for Dhaka by a Biman Bangladesh airlines flight this noon after wrapping up his one and a half day visit in Chittagong as the Chittagong University conferred upon him a honorary D. Litt on its campus here, reports BSS.
