Around fifty thousand people of two unions under Nabinagar upazila of Brahmanbaria were immensely suffering for want of a bridge. They had to cross the Titas River by boats during the rainy season.

They had no means of communication. Frustration gripped them as no government initiative was taken to relieve their sufferings. The authorities concerned have been indifferent to the cry of people since the independence of Bangladesh.

At last, a group of former students of Rasullabad U.A Khan High School, who appeared at the SSC examinations in 1997, have taken the initiative to solve the problem. They have constructed a wooden bridge with a measure of 200 ft length and 3.5 ft width. The youths have profusely praised for their exemplary work.

Nabinagar Upazila Council Chairman Eng Shafiqul Islam, Advocate Salauddin, Rasullabad Union Parishad Chairman Ali Akbar, NTV Senior Reporter Hasan Jabed, the students of 97 batch and local people were present at the inaugural ceremony on Saturday at Rasullabad village.

Local people said, the youths have made a unique example of beneficence by constructing the bridge with a view to removing the sufferings of the people. Their efforts will encourage others to selflessly do something for those who are in distress.

This wooden bridge is a temporary solution. We urge the authorities concerned to construct a permanent pucca bridge soon, they added.
