Meghna Ghat brings earning way for laborers

Hundreds of laborers unloading and loading various goods from cargos, oil tankers, launches and trawlers. Noise all around in Meghna Ghat which was silent it was declared as a full-fledged river port.Meghna Ghat (Meghna River Port) is situated 26 kilometers away from Dhaka capital city. Laborers mostly unload stones and load cement in the port as several cement factories have been established in the area. Sand business has flourished in the area as well notably.

In the last 10 years Meghna River port has developed so fast. Multistoried buildings, industries, super markets, mosques, new town have been established. The most important industries in the Meghna River Port are Bashundhara Paper Mill, Magura Paper Mill, Shajalal Paper Mill, Holcim Cement Factory, Tiger Cement Factory, Fresh Cement Factory, Globe Salt Industries, and a power plant have been established. Meghna River Port labor Md Mojibur Miah said, he has been working at the port for the last 12 to 13 years. He was very poor in the beginning. Now he is living a happy life with children.

He has sent his elder son to Malaysia. Mojibur Miah added, the Meghna River Port has given him a lot of things. Islampur of Meghna Ghat area ward AL  General Secretary Noor Mohamad said, before the people of this area was far behind from cultural and educational development. Now a days the area has witnessed massive development.
