Rafiq Azad's birthday celebration today

The 76th birth anniversary of the late poet Rafiq Azad will be held today. Rafiq Azad Memorial Parishad has taken elaborate programs to celebrate the occasion at poet's Dhanmondi residence at 4:00 pm.Popularly known as Rafiq Azad, writer and editor Rafiqul Islam Khan was born on February 14, 1942, while he died on March 12, 2016.

He received the Bangla Academy Literary Award in 1984 while he was awarded national award Ekushey Padak in 2013 for his contribution to Bangla language and literature.

He is most well known for his poem "Bhaat De Haramjada" (Give me food, bastard) which was written during the famine of 1974. Family members of the poet and the Parishad will pay homage by placing wreaths in the morning at Mirpur Shahid intellectuals' graveyard.
