Zillur Rahman's death anniversary observed

The fifth death anniversary of former President Zillur Rahman, a veteran politician, a Language Movement hero, an organizer of the Liberation War and one of the close associates of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, was observed yesterday.

Zillur Rahman died of old-age complications at a Singapore hospital on March 20, 2013.He started his political career as a volunteer of Awami League and was inducted as the 19th president of the country on February 12, 2009. He discharged his responsibilities as general secretary of Awami League for 12 years for five different terms.

Bangladesh Awami League, its associate bodies, other like-minded organizations and socio-cultural and professional bodies organized various programs paying homage to the late leader.The programs included placing wreaths at Banani grave of the President, milad mahfil, Qurankhwani, doa-munajat and discussions in the capital and elsewhere across the country.

AL placed wreath at his Banani graveyard in the capital and a milad mahfil was arranged across the country. His family members visited his grave and offered prayers there. Bangabandhu Shangskritik Jote will organize a memorial meeting at Jatiya Press Club in this connection today where Food Minister Advocate Quamrul Islam will be the chief guest.
