Bhanga-Gora theatre fest started
With a slogan of "Manche Natok Dekhun, Oithihasik Mohila Samity Manche Ashun", Bangladesh Group Theatre Federation, in association with Ministry of Cultural Affairs, has organized a month long theatre festival titled 'Bhanga-Gora Natya Utsab' at the Mahila Samity Manch, New Baily Road.
Cultural affairs minister Asaduzzaman Noor inaugurated the festival as a chief guest yesterday at 6pm. Ramendu Majumdar, Mamunur Rashid, Nasir Uddin Yusuf, Sara Zaker, Sammilita Sangskritik Jote president Golam Kuddus, Bangladesh Mohila Samity chairperson Sitara Ahasanullah and general secretary Tania Bokth attended the inauguration ceremony as special guests. The ceremony was presided over by Liaquat Ali Lucky, chairmen of Group Theatre Federation while secretary general of Bangladesh Group Theatre Federation Akhtaruzzaman delivered the welcome speech.  The festival started with the staging of Loko Natyadal's most popular play 'Shonai Madhab'. Directed by Liaquat Ali Lucky, the production is taken from a story of Mymensing Geetika- a rich collection of folk-ballades. The play reintroduces one of the earliest theatre styles of Bangladesh where male artists used to play the female character as well.
The play which follows the Pachali way, a narrative style of ancient theatre, tells a romantic tragedy of Shonai and Madhab that unites affliction, suffering and dilemma of women. Through traditional music and dance recitals, the audience visualized the story in Pala form.  The cast of the play includes Roksana Akter Rupsa, Zahidul Kabir Liton, Liakaut Ali Lucky, Rahima Khatun Nila, Mamun Hossain, and others. Following the festival schedule, Theatre Arambagh will present their most acclaimed production 'Nikhai' today. The play is directed by Gazi Rakayet.
