The production at Ashuganj Fertiliser Chemical Company Limited (AFCCL) in Brahmanbaria started from Monday morning after 14-month long shutdown due to gas crisis.
Due to 14 months production halt, the factory counting loses of nearly 5.4 lakh metric tons of urea fertilizer production worth of Tk 630 crore, said sources.
Factory sources said, generally the factory can produce around 1,200 metric tons of Urea fertilizer worth Tk 1.68 crore daily. Earlier, Bakhrabad Gas Distribution Company Limited (BGDCL), the local gas supplier, had stopped gas supply to AFCCL on April 19, 2017 to keep power plants in place.
For starting urea fertilizer production in full swing, the Ashuganj fertilizer factory required 48 to 52 mm cf of gas. The production of the factory remains stopped for gas supply scarcity.
After the repeated demand for proper gas supply of the factory workers, Bakhrabad Gas Distribution Company provided gas to the factory on June 13, 2018. Then, the factory has started urea production within a short time of getting gas supply.
Factory officials, workers-employees and locals are now happy with the resume of long time closed production of the factory.
They expressed gratitude to BCIC Chairman Shah Aminul Haque and BCIC Director (Technical and Engineer) Engineer Mohammad Ali Akkas in this regard. BCIC director (technical) Engineer Mohammad Ali Akkas said that the production of the factory started from Monday morning after closure of 14 months of gas supply.
Due to the closure of the factory for a long time the fertilizer stocks at the factory were in the zero-order. The supply of fertilizers in 7 districts of the area is normal with 30,000 metric tons imported urea fertilizer supply during this time, he added.
