BNP rallies for Khaleda's release
The BNP is going to hold a rally in the capital after two and a half years to demand the release of Chairperson Khaleda Zia from jail.

The rally is scheduled to start at 3pm on Friday in front of the BNP's central office at Nayapaltan, said party leaders.

The BNP has been permitted to hold a ‘peaceful rally’ from 2pm to 5pm on a 23-point condition, said the Dhaka Metropolitan Police.

“We had less time to prepare for the rally after we received the written permission, but succeeded to organise the rally. It will start after Friday prayers at 3pm,” said Ruhul Kabir Rizvi, the party’s senior joint secretary general.

The rally will also demand proper medical treatment for Khaleda, said Rizvi.
The BNP chairperson has been imprisoned since Feb 8, following her conviction in the Zia Orphanage Trust graft case.

The BNP has been demanding her release and treatment in the United Hospital in the city, claiming Khaleda being severely sick.

BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir announced the rally from a briefing on Jul 15.

The last time the BNP held a rally in the capital was on Jan 5, 2016 with Khaleda as the chief guest.
