Atiur stresses on collaboration for implementation of SDGs Dr Atiur Rahman speaking as chief guest at a training workshop on SDGs implementation organized by Deputy Commissioner's office in Chattogram yesterday.

Former Bangladesh Bank Governor Dr Atiur Rahman said that Bangladesh played a strategic role in formulation of SDGs and it is on track in implementing the goals. Based on the significant gains made in implementing MDGs Bangladesh is poised on achieving similar results in realizing SDGs, he observed. 

Since SDGs are based on bottom up approaches Bangladesh should continue to encourage on collaboration between state and non-state actors including private and non-profit sectors, he said speaking as chief guest at a training workshop in Chattogram yesterday. 

Food and Agricultural Organization (FAO) provided necessary assistance for the workshop. Prof Abu Eusuf, Prof Taibur Rahman, Prof Kazi Maruful Islam, Prof SelimRaihan of Dhaka University and Mr Habibur Rahman, Additional Deputy Commissioner. Divisional Commissioner Abdul Mannan and Deputy Commissioner Elias Hossain also spoke at the closing session of the workshop. 

Dr Atirur said the SDGs are interlinked and there is a need for more inclusive approach in implementing the same. In addition, Bangladesh should also support SMEs through financial inclusion, digitization and e-commerce, employment creation through entrepreneurship development with skills development, adequate financing, productive agriculture, renewable energy, regional and sub-regional cooperation and tapping the opportunity of burgeoning middle and advance consumer base facilitated by increased per capita income, he pointed out. More significantly, the financial stability must be maintained at any cost without which the amazing transformation of our macro economy may face insurmountable challenges, he said.In his speech as Chief Guest former Governor Professor
