National Award: Rohan, Ponir and Mushfiq take the pride
The winners and runners-ups of the 2016 National Awards of Sony World Photography Award has been revealed on March 15 where three local photographers Rohan, Ponir and Mushfiq were announced as the winners from Bangladesh.
Now in its 4th year, the hugely successful National Award program works across 61 countries, from Australia to Argentina, Russia to Vietnam, to find out the best single image taken by a local photographer. For this year's competition, an expert panel was tasked to uncover and honor the best single image taken by a photographer from each National Award country, entered into any of the ten Open categories of the 2016 Sony World Photography Awards where from Bangladesh these three talented photographer's capture drew a great attention. The open categories of this year's competition were Architecture, Arts and Culture, Enhanced, Low Light, Nature and Wildlife, Panoramic, People, Smile, Split Second, and Travel.  
Md Tanveer Rohan's capture 'Playing in Dusty Dusk' won in the Bangladesh National Award. The photo was shortlisted in 'Smile', an open category of the competition. The snap shows a group of Madrasa kids finding solace in a make shift football game in the soft rays of the evening sun by what they might call as the celebration with sand and joy.
The first runner up was Mohammad Ponir Hossain's shot 'Observing Rakher Upabash'. Under the open categories 'Arts and Culture', this photographs shows a group of Hindu believers sitting together on floor in Lokenath Brahmachari Temple at Swamibag, Dhaka for praying to Lokenath Brahmachari- a 18th century Hindu saint and philosopher in Bengal. Mushfiq Hossain's photographs won the 2nd runner up position that shows three Madrasa students holding their slates with Arabic, Bengali and English letters were wrote on.
