Ayub Bachchu laid to rest Thousands of people attended the funeral of legendary pop star Ayub Bachchu in front of the Baitul Falah Jame Masjid in Chattogram yesterday. -AA

Legendery band rock singer Ayub Bachchu or AB was laid to eternal rest yesterday next to his mother in the port city of Chottogram as hundreds of mourners offered prayers. His namaj-e-janaza was held at Jamiatul Falah Jame Mosque in Dampara Wasa intersection area after Asr prayers and later buried in the port city's Choittani Goli graveyard.

AB, 56, who loved and talked about his mother always, had wished to be buried next to her on his death. The founder lead vocalist of LRB rock band died on Thursday of a heart attack in Dhaka and his body was later flown to Chottogram for burial. His body was kept at the Central Shaheed Minar dedicated to the Bengali language martyrs on Friday where thousands of mourners converged. Many broke down.

His uncle told reporters here that Bachchu went to Chattogram on October 12 for a program and visited his mother's grave. Before leaving he told the caretaker of the graveyard that he wished to be buried next to his loving mother. He also showed the place of his grave. His son and daughter reached Bangladesh from Australia and Canada respectively on Friday night.
