Armed Forces Day celebrated

Armed Forces Day was celebrated in Cumilla Cantonment through various programs with festivity on Wednesday. In his welcome speech, the General Officer Commanding (GOC) of the 33 Infantry Division and Cumilla area Commander Major General Ahmed Tabrez Shams Chowdhury praised the courage, dedication, cooperation and heroic contribution of people in Cumilla region and paid rich tributes to all martyrs of the Liberation War in 1971.

Bangladesh Awami League General Secretary and Road Transport and Bridges Minister Obaidul Quader MP, former state minister captain (retd) ABM Tajul Islam, AKM Bahauddin Bahar MP, Md Tajul Islam MP, RAM Obaidul Muktadir Chowdhury MP, Rawshan Ara Mannan MP, Professor Nurul Islam Milon MP, Amir Hossain MP, Cumilla Deputy Commissioner (DC) Md Abul Fazl Mir, Superintendent of Police Syed Md Nurul Islam, former commissioner of Cumilla District Council Omar Farooq, high military and civil officials were present. Freedom fighters, affected families, former army officials, representative of socio-cultural organizations from Cumilla, Chandpur, Brahmanbaria, Noakhali, Laxmipur, Feni took part in the program.

On this day during the Liberation War, the Bangladesh Armed Forces came into being and launched an all-out attack on Pakistani occupational forces. President Abdul Hamid and Prime Minister Sheikh have paid tribute to the martyred members of Bangladesh Armed Forces on the occasion of the Armed Forces Day. The president placed wreath at the altar of Shikha Anirban (eternal flame) in Dhaka Cantonment at 8am on Wednesday.
