Road named after late DNCC Mayor Huq A plaque with the picture and bio of late Mayor Annisul Huq, was unveiled yesterday by his family members. The inauguration was organized to name the Satrasta to Tejgaon route after Mayor Huq. -AA

A road in Dhaka was inaugurated yesterday after the name of departed Mayor of Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC) Annisul Huq. The road, from Satrasta to Tejgaon railroad, will be called Mayor Annisul Huq road.

Huq's widow Rubana Huq, son Navidul Huq, bother former Army Chief General Abu Belal Mohammad Shafiul Huq, DNCC panel mayor Jamal Mostafa and Dhaka North chief executive officer Misbahul Haq were present during the inauguration

A dua mahfil was held after it marking the first death anniversary of the mayor. Businessman turned mayor Annisul went on a family tour to London on 29 July, 2017. During the visit, he was hospitalized and diagnosed with Cerebral Vasculitis. On 30 November, Huq breathed his last at a hospital in London.                     

He was elected Dhaka North City Corporation mayor on a ruling Awami League ticket in 2015.He had served as president of Bangladesh’s apex trade body FBCCI during the military-installed caretaker administration.Prior to that, he also headed the trade body of apparel makers and exporters, BGMEA. Born in his mother’s ancestral village of Sonapur at Sonagazi in Feni on Oct 27, 1952, Annisul Huq graduated in economics from Chittagong University.
