Umme Fatema Nazma Begum, popularly known as Sheuly Azad and widow of late AKM Iqbal Azad, who was brutally murdered by his rogue political rivals on October 21, 2012, has been nominated as the ruling Awami League candidate for one of the women's reserved seats in the eleventh parliament. She is one of the 43 AL nominees, who were recently chosen at a meeting of the ruling party's parliamentary board and local government nomination board.

Awami League leader Iqbal Azad was immensely popular with people in Brahmanbaria-2 (Sarail-Ashuganj) of Brahmanbaria. He won the hearts of people through his selfless works and politics of welfare. His popularity made a vested quarter angry, which resulted in the tragic end of a true leader of the masses.

After the tragic killing of her husband, Sheuly Azad entered politics, suppressing the pain of her bereavement. The Sarail Awami League committee was dissolved and Sheuly Azad was elected joint convener-1 of the upazila unit. Since then, Sheuly Azad has been relentlessly working with a view to materializing the dreams of her late husband. Local leaders and activists of the Awami League and its front organizations got united under the leadership of Sheuly Azad.

Sheuly Azad was given the nomination of the Awami League from Brahman-baria-2 constituency in the tenth parliamentary election held in 2014. But she withdrew her candidacy at the directive of party chief Sheikh Hasina in the larger interest of the Grand Alliance led by the Awami League and sincerely worked for the candidate of the alliance.

In the eleventh parliamentary polls, Sheuly Azad was also an aspirant for the party nomination. Unfortunately, she was again deprived of the nomination due to the political calculations of the Grand Alliance. However, she accepted the party decision with a smiling face. She took part in the election campaigns of the alliance candidate and other party candidates in the district and played a significant role in their victory. In her reaction to her nomination to the JS, Sheuly Azad said, "I do the politics of the Awami League.

My husband sacrificed his life. I relentlessly work for people. Mother of Humanity Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina is my leader. I am grateful to my leader (Sheikh Hasina) for evaluating my work. I also convey my gratitude to the people of my constituency for standing beside me. I will continue my work till my death."
