Goat farming brings boon to farmer in Tangail

Abdul Gani Mia (50) of Gowariya village under Delduar upazila in Tangail changed his fate by goat farming. He has two daughters and a son in his family beside his wife. A few years ago, Gani Mia maintained his family by working in others houses as a day laborer. But he couldn't lead his family properly with that work. So he thought to do something different to overcome the poverty cycle he was living in.

He decided to start goat farming but he had no capital to start the business. So he took a goat from one of his neighbors and started to goat farming in one condition to give back half of the profit from goat farming to the neighbor. He reared the goat and after three years he got four goats from one goat according to the condition. Gani Mia raised the number of goats year after year, keeping the four goats. When he got 10/12 goats then left the day laborer work and started to do goat farming with his wife in a quite big range.

At present, they have total 70 goats and 22 goats have been conceived. This way the number of goats increasing day by day and every year he got Tk 300,000 by selling goats.  The local people inspired to derive in goat farming by seeing the success of Gani Mia.  Some people have also started to do goat farming in the village already.About the goat farming Abdul Gani Mia and his wife said, 'We had been goat farming for 8 years and same time one goat gives 2-5 goat kids.

Now we don't work others house and lead our life by doing goat farming. But already 80 goats has died due to lack of treatment. If government helps us for goat farming then we will improve more in goat farming business.'Upazila Livestock Resources Officer Dr. Md. Habibur Rahman said, 'Upazila Animal Resources Department helps to do treatment freely of the animals, birds, injections and others facilities. They also help to Gani Mia's goat farming for better improvement.
