Competitive candidates for BAU VC post

Bangladesh Agricultural University Vice-chancellor Prof Dr Md Ali Akbar's post as Vice-chancellor expired yesterday.A common question is arisen among BAU teachers, students and officials, who will be the next Vice-chancellor? Some teachers of the university have already started a race to become next Vice-chancellor of the university.

According to the relevant sources it is known that, Prof Dr Md Ali Akbar was appointed as Vice-chancellor of BAU on 24th May, 2015. In the past four years, there are no complaints of any irregularities and misappropriations against the vice-chancellor. Recently, some complaints have arisen against him including gives additional benefits to some teachers of his own faculty, recruitment of non-seasonal seasonal workers.

Talks with some teachers of the university it is known that, some teachers are ahead in the race as Vice-chancellor candidate of the university. Among them, Pro-VC Prof Dr Md Jasimuddin Khan who was former student affair adviser of the university, BAU Teachers Association's President Prof Dr Md Lutful Hassan of Genetics and Plant Breeding, former VC of Chittagong Veterinary and Animal Science University (CVASU) Prof Dr Abusaleh Mahfuzul Bari of Pathology department, Convener of BAU provost council Prof Dr Md Ahsan Bin Habib of Aquaculture department, BAU student affair adviser Prof Dr Md Solaiman Ali Fakir of Crop Botany department, Former director of BAU Research System (BAURES) Prof Md Monjurul Alam of Farm Power and Machinery department, Present BAURES director Prof Dr M A M Yahia Khandoker of Animal Breeding and Genetics department,  Prof Dr Md Akhter Hossain Chowdhury of Agricultural Chemistry department and Krishibid Institute of Bangladesh (KIB) BAU chapter secretary general Prof Dr AKM Zakir Hossain are ahead as Vice-chancellor candidate.

General Secretary of BAU Democratic Teachers Forum Prof Dr Muhammad Mohir Uddin said, 'We want a Vice-Chancellor of the university who will provide fair education, research and residential environment. The person who holding the ideology of Awami League and Bangabandhu is expected to be appointed as Vice-chancellor of the university.
