Popular beauty parlors 'Persona' and 'Farzana Shakil's' were fined Tk 3.6 million yesterday for using expired and fake cosmetics.
Directorate of National Consumer Rights Protection (DNCRP) conducted drive at two outlets of 'Persona' at Dhanmondi and realized a fine of Tk 6 lakh. A mobile court of Rapid Action Battalion on the same day fined another outlet of it in Dhaka's Gulshan Tk 15 lakh. The same court also fined 'Farzana Shakil's Makeover Saloon' Tk 15 lakh.
Deputy Director of DNCRP Dhaka divisional office Manjur Mohammad Shariar said: "People have faith on renowned brand like Persona and they are bound to respect it." According to the DNCRP, they found huge consignment of cosmetics at Persona which neither had any importer seal or information about the manufacturer. "They had no accountability. Those are either illegal or fake products and they could not prove our suspicion wrong."
No reaction from Persona was available instantly. However, Shariar said Persona admitted their fault and promised to correct it. "They promised to correct their 50 percent," said the official. DNCRP also fined Tk 3 lakh to Alvira's Beauty Parlor at Dhanmondi.
