Bangladesh Women's Handball is all set to leave Dhaka for India on Monday to take part in the upcoming 8th Asian Women's Youth Handball Championship 2019, scheduled to be held on August 21-30 at Jaipur, India.

Total 10 teams, including defending champions South Korea, will be participating the 10-day meet. Bangladesh placed in Group A along with defending Champions South Korea, runners-up Japan, Uzbekistan and Chinese Taipei while Group B comprises hosts India, PR China, Kazakhstan, Nepal and Mongolia.

The tournament has been dominated by South Korea who has emerged champion in the all the seven editions of the tournament held so far. The previous edition in 2017 was held at Jakarta in Indonesia where South Korea was the champion while Japan and China were placed second and third respectively.

Ahead of the tournament, Bangladesh Handball Federation (BHF) arranged a media conference on Saturday at BHF office where BHF general secretary Asaduzzaman Kohinoor disclosed the details of the meet at the function. Youth and Sports secretary Dr M Zafar Uddin was also present on the occasion.

Bangladesh will play defending champions South Korea in the opening match on August 21. In their next matches, Bangladesh women's team will play Japan on August 23, Chinese Taipei on August 25 and Uzbekistan on August 26.

Bangladesh Handball Federation (BHF) announced a 19-member Bangladesh squad, including 14 players and five officials, for their maiden Asian Women's Youth Handball Championship.

Manager of Bangladesh team Nurul Haque Biswas, coach Md Towhidur Rahman and captain Alpona Akter also spoke on the occasion. Coach of Bangladesh team Md Touhidur Rahman said the girls are motivated and can do well in the competition.

"We're going to participate for the first time in this competition. But, our girls are motivated. Some of our players have played international matches. I believe they'll do well in the competition," he said.

Bangladesh captain Alpona Akter said that they will give their best performance in the competition. "We worked hard. Now our main task is to give our best performance in the competition," she said.
