Terror of Razakar Omar, Wahab still haunts Narail

Terror of Razakar Omar, Wahab still haunts Narail A scene of torture during 1971 Liberation War of Bangladesh

It was a night as usual on July 17, 1971, when people of village Tularampur were trying to fall asleep, hoping for a new start on a day to be dawned anew. However, their sleep was cut short by the ferocious local Razakars as they raided the village and apprehended eight people.
"Razakars led by Omar Ali Sheikh alias Jallad Omar and Abdul Wahab detained my father Mokam Mollah, our neighbors Rafikul Tarafdar, Mahtab Uddin Tarafdar, Atiyar Rahman Tarafdar, Altaf Hossain Tarafdar, Abdus Salam Mollah, Kaisar Hossain Mollah and Mokbul Hossain Shikdar and taken them to their camp. There, they tortured them immensely for two days and later buried them alive inside the premises of Narail WAPDA office," Abdur Rahim, son of martyr Mokam Mollah, told BSS. Fifty-year-old Rahim was narrating his loss with chocked voice, saying the cruelty of Razakars, especially of Omar and Wahab crossed all limits. "We still wonder how they could do it to a human being! How can a human being just bury another alive!" Rahim wandered.
Wahab of village Fulasshar and Omar of village Borashula under Narail sadar upazila raised the gang of Razakars and carried out the monstrous crimes along the banks of river Chitra. "Water of river Chitra used to turn red by the bloods of innocents. Wahab even proudly called himself Shimar. Wahab and Omar were the main killers used by the Pakistani troops," said valiant Freedom Fighter Najir Hossain Mollah. "Wahab and Omar raised their group following the order of Razakar commander of then Narail mahakuma Solaiman Mollah. They used to slaughter people at the main post office in Narail and launch ghat and throw the bodies into river. They tunred Narail Dak Banglow as their main torture camp."
"Their main targets were the people who tried to cross Narail on their way to India. Wahab, Omar and their men used to detain and produce them before their commander Solaiman. He then used to sort them out and handed the people over to Wahab and Omar for killing," Najir recalled. The former district commander of District Muktijoddha Council said for killing a single person, Wahab, Omar and their men used to get Taka ten per head and some good food. At the later stage of the war, Wahab and Omar turned more violent and used to raid houses, shops, loot those, put fire to those installations. They raped many women in the locality. Wahab, Omar and their men apprehended Freedom Fighters Mizanur Rahman and Sayem on December 7, 1971, and killed Mizan and paraded his body through Narail town by tying it with bamboo. "The Razakars attacked Freedom Fighters and Awami League leaders Ekhlas Uddin, Abdus Salam and Abdus Sattar in Gobra area under sadar upazila. Ekhlas and Sattar somehow managed to flee but Razakars detained Salam and later killed him. They detained 15 innocent men from Harishpur and Pathalia.
