Recitation and songs by Khilkhil and Salauddin Khilkhil Kazi (L) and Salauddin Ahmed

Indira Gandhi Cultural Centre is organizing an evening of recitation and songs by Ms. Khilkhil Kazi and Mr. Salauddin Ahmed at its Gulshan premises on May 27 at 6:30pm. The programme is being organized as part of the celebration of Birth Anniversary of National Poet of Bangladesh Kazi Nazrul Islam.
Ms. Khilkhil Kazi is the daughter of Kazi Sabyasachi and granddaughter of Kazi Nazrul Islam. In her childhood, she learnt music from her father. After independence of Bangladesh, on the invitation of Bangabandhu in 1972 Khilkhil Kazi came with her parents to Bangladesh and settled here. She also learnt music from Salauddin Ahmed. She has given performances in many foreign countries. She has received several awards namely Crest of Honor from the Indian Parliament in 2003, Nazrul Award from Nazrul Academy in 2014 and Nazrul Award from Nazrul Institute and Ministry of Culture in 2014.
Mr. Salahuddin Ahmed, a veteran music exponent of Bangladesh, is a Special Grade artist of both classical and Nazrul Sangeet. He learnt music from his father in his early years and later trained under stalwarts like Mr. Nirmalendu Biswas, Ustad A. Daud (for Classical Music) and Pandit Sukumar Mitra (for Nazrul Sangeet, Ghazal & Bhajans). He has also published two books aimed at restoring the original notations of Nazrul Geeti approved by the Nazrul Institute of Bangladesh. He is winner of the Citycell-Channel I Music Award in 2008 and the Shommilito Shahitto o Shangskritik Puroshkar in Jessore.
