Detective Branch of police arrested two alleged banned militant outfit Ansarullah Bangla Team (ABT) members under the Antiterrorism Act amid a nationwide anti-terror crackdown.
They are-- Md Mozahidul Islam and Md Ariful Islam Solaiman alias Arafat. Police produced them before a court seeking ten days remand. However, the court allowed police 5 days for each to grill.
The duo came to the capital at the instruction of a top leader to attend a meeting. Moreover, they were collecting funds for the militant group and doing propaganda against the government, Additional Commissioner Monirul Islam told the media on Tuesday. "The arrests were made around 9:30pm on Monday in city's Kamrangirchar area following a tip-off," ADC Monirul added. Sharp weapons and jihadi literatures were recovered from their possession. Monirul Islam, who is also the head of the Counter-Terrorism and Transnational Crime unit, also said police would check whether they were directly involved in recent machete killings. "Some people who are sympathetic to the group and like their activities do the funding. We already have got a list of those people and scrutinizing them. Police will bring them to book if they found linked," he said at the press briefing."The outfit has a governing board with some spiritual leaders. The leaders orchestrate recruitment and meeting through cyberspace," senior police officer Monirul concluded.
