People of Joypurhat district peer light of hope as dredging of four vital rivers: Tulshiganga, Little Jamuna, Haramati and Chiri rivers in the district will start soon. Development Project Proposals (DPP) has finishes  a long process of Feasibility study, project proposal submitting, fund arrangement etc. Water Development Board Sources of Joypurhat said, the four rivers: Tulshiganga, Little Jamuna, Haramati and Chiri rivers will be dredged soon. In 2015 Agricultural Minister Matia Chowdhuri revealed to the divisional commissioners of Rajshahi division about the project of 142 core to be used for re-digging of these four rivers. All the documents are ready to implement this project of dredging the four rivers.
Minister sent a letter of importance of dredging these rivers after the video conference with divisional commissioners.
The waterway is inspired by this project for easier transport of agricultural products easier than road communication.
Deputy Commissioner realizing the necessity of the river digging, requested to Joypurhat Sub-Divisional Engineer of the Water Development Project to prepare a project for dredging four rivers in the area. According to the DC's observation and request Joypurhat Sub-Divisional Engineer of the Water Development Board submitted the project to  Rajshahi Divisional Commissioner. Bangla-desh Water Development Board formed a five members committee to submit the project. The committee members are Dhaka BWDBP Engineer (Design Circle 6) Motahar Hossain as convener, Bogra BWDBP Executive Engineer Ruhul Amin, Dhaka BWDBP Executive Engineer (Planning Directorate 3 Current Design Circle 4) Abul Kauser, Deputy Chief of the Dhaka BWDBP, Jahangir Alama and Deputy Chief of Dhaka BWDB (Economics), Golam Faruk Ahmed.Deputy Assistant Engineer of Joypurhat Sub Water Development Board Marzan Hossain said, the project is prepared after the feasibility study of these four rivers. This project has been submitted within 30 days of working days. He said, very soon they can introduce possibility irrigation in dry season, waterways navigation to the locals to boost their business by using the waterways by cheaper cost.
41.5 kilometer of Tulshiganga River in Panchbibi, Joypurhat sadar, Khetralal and Akkelpur area will be dug under this project. 23.1 kilometer of Little Jamuna River of Panchbibi, Joypurhat area will be dug under this project. 21.7 kilometer of Chiri River will be dug under this project in Joypurhat sadar and Akkelpur area and 16.5 kilometer of Haramati River will be dug under this project in Panchbibi, Joypurhat Sadar and Khetralal area.The area of Joypurhat is 1012.41 Sq Km. It is under Rajshahi Division. There are 04 Municipalities in Joypurhat named Akkelpur, Kalai, Joypurhat and Pachbibi. The number of Upazilla (sub district) in Joypurhat district is 05, named- Joypurhat, Khetlal, Akkelpur, Kalai and Pachbiby containing 32 Unions, 661 Mauzas and 887 Villages.Choto Jamuna, Tulshi Ganga, Haramoti, Chiri, Sree Rivers are vital in Joypurhat district. Paddy, Sugarcane, Jute, Turmeric, Banana, Potato, Mango, Jack fruit, Pulses, Yam, Betel Leaf, Tobacco, Oil seeds etc are main agro products in this district.
After the liberation of Bangladesh, Joypurhat started its journey as a district in 1984. Saotal, Orao, Munda, Mohali, Mohanta, Rajhangshi etc tribes also found in the district and total population of such tribes is about forty seven thousand. River experts said, if the re digging of these four vital rivers can be implemented in time the rivers will bring fortune for the local people.
