Fishermen get sewing machines in Ashuganj

 
As a means of generating alternative income, fishermen have got sewing machines in Ashuganj. Under the Cumilla District Fisheries Development Project, sewing machines were distributed among some 80 fishermen at the ground floor of Upazila Parishad on Thursday. Ashuganj Upazila Fisheries Office organized the distribution program.

Ashuganj Upazila Parishad Chairman Md Hanif Munshi was present as a chief guest while Upazila Vice-Chairman Lima Sultana, Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) Arvind Biswas, Ashuganj Upazila Press Club President Mohammad Mozammel Haque, Upazila Fisheries Officer Rawnak Jahan, Assistant Fisheries Officer Saidur Rahman and others were present at the distribution of sewing machines. Rawnak Jahan, Ashuganj Upazila Fisheries Officer said, "There are times when fishermen can't catch fish for their livelihood therefore, the sewing machines have been distributed to earn a living through it." An iron, chair and necessary equipment were also distributed with each sewing machine.
