Road blockade demanding college nationalization

Several hundred students of Nazirhat College in Chittagong blocked the Chittagong-Khagrachari road at Hathazari on Saturday demanding nationalization of the college. They gathered on the road at around 10 am and continued the blockade till 1 pm. The college is one of the oldest institutions which contributed a lot in the language movement in 1952 and liberation war in 1971. Hundreds of vehicles created long traffic congestion on the road and virtually the communication of Chittagong with Khagrachari and Rangamati remained suspended for hours together due to the blockade.

Later, the agitated students along with hundreds of locals submitted a  memorandum to the Minister for Water Resource  Barrister Anisul Islam Mahmud and the minister  assured them of taking steps soon to nationalize the Nazirhat College. Later, the agitated students withdraw the blockade from the road and movement of vehicles on the road started after 1 pm.  Officer -in-charge of Hathazari thana Mohammad Ismail admitted the blockade by students. He said the agitated students withdrew the blockade following the assurance by the minister.
