Atiqul for joint efforts to make Dhaka as developed city
 
Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC) Mayor Md Atiqul Islam on Tuesday underscored the need for joint efforts of all to develop the city.
"Dhaka, the capital of Sonar Bangla, has to be developed as a sophisticated city like Switzerland. Joint efforts of all are needed in this regard," he said, the Bss reports.

He was speaking at a function arranged to distribute food items as gifts of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina to the unemployed, destitute, and helpless people as the chief guest on the occasion of the 46th martyrdom anniversary of Father of the Nation at Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Academy ground in the city's Agargaon area.

During the time, the mayor with deep respect recalled all the martyrs including Bangabandhu and his family members who were brutally killed by the assassins on the night of August 15, 1975.

He urged all to be vocal against illegal occupation and pollution so that they could build a city free from any kind of harassment.

On behalf of the premier, some 1,000 poor and helpless families got food items including rice, pulses, soybean oil, sugar, chira, Suji, powdered milk, and salt as gifts, he added.

Later, the DNCC mayor took part in a discussion and doa-mahfil organized by DNCC Sramik Karmachari League at Nagar Bhaban in the city's Gulshan area.
