Basulia traditional boat  race held in Tangail

Like every year, a traditional boat race was held at Basulia (Chapra Beel) in Basail upazila of Tangail district. Organized by Bir Muktijoddha Abdul Malek Mia Smriti Sangsad, the boat race was held on Saturday (September 4). Advocate Joaherul Islam, a ruling party lawmaker from Tangail-4 constituency, attended the boat race program as the chief guest while Upazila Chairman Kazi Olid Islam was in the chair.

Tangail Deputy Commissioner Dr Ataul Goni inaugurated the boat race while Superintendent of Police Sanjit Kumar Roy, Ghatail Cantonment Executive Shamsun Nahar Swapna, Upazila Nirbahi Officer Monjur Hossain, Basail Pourshava Mayor Abdur Rahim Ahmed, among others, were present on the occasion. In the competition, the boat of Sabuj Sarkar named 'Jamunar Tori' won the first place in Nikrail area of Bhunapur upazila of the district.

The 'Hirar Tori' from the Jamuna Setu area of the same upazila came second and the 'Ekota Tori' from Abdus Samad from the Gabsara area of the same upazila came third. Motorcycles were given as the first prize. At the end of the competition, the guests handed out prizes among the winners.
