'Daudkandi municipality will be a role model for whole country'

Cumilla's Daudkandi municipality mayor Naeem Yusuf Sein has recently expressed hope that his municipality will be a role model for the whole country. Daudkandi municipality has been established along the Dhaka-Chittagong highway and famous Gumti River. The natural beauty of the evergreen trees and biodiversity has made the municipality even more attractive.

The municipality has currently received second class status. Since its inception, the people of the municipality have seen the most development under the tenure of current mayor Naeem Yusuf Sein. Mayor Sein has made development since he was elected mayor in his first term. Roads, bridges, culverts, link roads in Para/Mahalla, installation of deep tube wells for potable water in each ward, well-planned drainage system to alleviate waterlogging have been made during his tenure.

Mayor Sein has lessened the suffering of the people by constructing a wide sustainable road from Bishwa Road to Model Thana via Daudkandi Bazar at a cost of around Tk 14 crore. Due to such developments, he was easily elected as the mayor for the second time by getting Awami League ticket. After winning the hearts of the people, he is now determined to transform the municipality into a 'Model Municipality'.  Talking to this correspondent, mayor Naeem Yusuf Sein said, "The ideology of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman is my inspiration. I have taken every effort to build an organized modern municipality.

Over the next five years, I have undertaken various development projects. Bangabandhu's brave daughter, 'Mother of Humanity,' Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has placed her faith in me and nominated me two times as a candidate of Awami League. I am highly grateful to the Prime Minister and Bangladesh Awami League. Jananetri Sheikh Hasina means development. Due to PM's skillful leadership, today Bangladesh is standing high in the world. I am also conveying the message of development of the Prime Minister in my area." 

"If I do development work in the next year, then no work will be left unfinished in the municipality. I hope Daudkandi municipality will be a role model for development and beauty all over the country," he added. "Our main problem is unemployment.

Due to unemployment, the youth are getting addicted to drugs. If they can't manage money for drugs, they have been chosen misguided path. My main goal is to engage these youths with various technical trainings. Then theft, snatching and various criminal activities including drugs will be reduced," the mayor further added.       

"There are 9 wards in my municipality. I will gradually bring each ward under the control of CCTV to curb crime. Regarding the development work, people of the municipality have become the absolute relatives of my soul. Therefore, it's my continuous routine work to develop the infrastructure of the municipality for the welfare of the residents," the mayor concluded.
