Prominent playwriter Afsar Ahmed passed away

Prominent playwriter Dr Afsar Ahmed, professor of Department of Drama and Dramatics of Jahangirnagar University (JU), has passed away at the National Heart Foundation at 2 pm on Saturday (October 9). He was 62. This information was ensured by Shoma Mumtaz, associate professor of dept. of Drama and Dramatics.

Prof Dr Afsar Ahmed was born on 30 September, 1959 in Manikgonj. He was a former student of Bangla language and literature in JU. He obtained his PhD degree from JU. Dr Afsar Ahmed started his teaching career as a lecturer in dept. of Bangla of JU. He later joined dept. of Drama and Dramatics in 1986-87. The former Pro-VC has held various responsibilities including chairman of dept of Drama and Dramatics, Dean of the Arts and Humanities faculty. He was simultaneously a poet, playwriter, researcher and literature critic.
