Commercial films don't go with my mentality: Mithila

Commercial films don't go with my mentality: Mithila

The proverbs 'He who cooks also ties his hair' is apt for her. Husband, family and children; she has not only confined himself to these three 's', she has taken herself to a unique level in form, quality and acting. I was talking about role model and popular actress Mithila.

Although her full name is Rafiath Rashid, she is popularly known as Mithila. Apart from being an actress, she is also a researcher, teacher, vocalist and lyricist. Not only that, she is also a writer and development worker. She writes research books as well as books for children. Beside one name, the one who has so much identity can't wait to say something new about her quality.

A long career in acting, but just signed up for movie. Many people have tried to make movies with her before but could not. Her only answer was 'not now'. But whenever she said 'yes' to the movie, she was offered one movie after another. She is now getting movie offers just as much as she is getting offers to act in plays.

Within six months of signing up, she has signed five movies and returned more than that. Mithila has recently signed a contract for the government-sponsored movie 'Jole Jwole Tara'. In this movie directed by Arun Chowdhury, FS Nayeem is opposite Mithila. Recently, we talked about movies, careers and various contemporary issues with this popular star. The magnetism of that conversation is highlighted for the readers-

Q. First of all, I want to know about the new movie 'Jole Jwole Tara' ...
Rafiath Rashid Mithila:  I won't say much about the story or the character right now. Then it will be seen that there will be no suspense. 'Jole Jwole Tara' is the story of a river and a women. They are the names of the women in the story. In this society, from a child to a women, there is a lot of work to be done; Such a story. That is to say, the story of the oppression of women. Some parts of the film are inspired by storyteller Syed Waliullah's 'Keraya' story, but not the whole. This story is completely different. The story of the stars of 'Jole Jwole Tara'. I'm doing that 'Tara' character.

Q. What is the reason for joining this movie?
Rafiath Rashid Mithila:   Feminist stories; That's one reason. I don't act so regularly, I want to work on these kinds of stories whenever I do. Simply put, feminist stories draw me more. There is a lot of sapce for acting in these kinds of stories, which is why I enjoy working so much. Here are some of the ones I found to be interesting: Another reason is that no rural character like the 'Tara' character here has ever been done before, the urban characters have always been more. There is something new for me here, I can do something different. Visitors will see me in a new way.

Q. Why did you take so long to act in movies in your long career? What fascinated you about the movie at this time?
Rafiath Rashid Mithila:  To be honest, I am basically a television artist. I have always acted in television. But I never thought I would be able to act in movie.

Apart from acting, I have another profession, I have been associated with BRAC International for the last 14 years, working as the head of the organization's Early Childhood Development. There too but my long career. Since I am the head of that program, I have a lot of responsibilities, a lot of work. Office work is very stressful, in addition to having to travel to different countries. All in all, I am under a lot of pressure.

Since I work with children there are a lot of people, a lot of investors. I have a lot of responsibilities, the office means coming and going; Not so. I have to plan the program, I have to fulfill many responsibilities starting from program design. Then there is a lot to travel. My project runs in 6 countries in Africa. I have to go to these countries regularly. It also happens that I have to go abroad every month. I never thought I would be able to find time for movie in such a busy time from such a responsible position.

Because, if you want to make a movie, you have to be associated with it for a long time. That will never be done by me. Which is why I couldn't even think for so long. Since my travels outside the country have been closed for the last two years due to Pandamic, we are all working from home during this time. At this time I thought that now a couple of movies can be made. In the meantime, I signed up for the Anonno Mamun's film. Then one by one many proposals started coming.

Q. Within 6 months of signing up, he has signed five films (Anonno Mamun's 'Amanush') (Rajarshi De's 'Maya') (Arunav Khasanbish's 'Nitishashtro') (Ringo Banerjee's 'A River in Heaven') and (Arun chowdhury'Jole Jwole Tara'). Now the plan ahead is just a movie?

Rafiath Rashid Mithila:   Honestly, I didn't realize that there would be so many movie offers after I started working on movies. Getting a lot of offers, different stories. I'm really surprised. But I will not do all the scripts that I have received, I may do some of these selectively. After a few days my journey will start again. Then maybe I will not be able to make movies like 5/6 a year like now. Then the number will decrease a little. Now I have just finished shooting. It remains to be seen how the audience will react when these are released. Let's see what happens!

Q. You are working, you are also managing the family. We know that cinema means a big canvas, it takes a long time to prepare, it takes a long time to work. How are you handling everything?

Rafiath Rashid Mithila:  It is difficult to handle everything. But I have been doing it for many years. I finished my studies but immediately joined the job. I have been continuing it since then, as well as doing it because I love acting. At that time I had prioritise my family child, tried to prioritise the acting but could not prioritise the acting full time, otherwise it would not have taken me so long to come to the cinema. I don't really know, it's done. It has been a matter of balancing for so many years.

I am a very self-reliant person, I don't like to depend on anyone. I like to do my own work. I like to spend my own money, this is what I have been doing all my life. With all the balance I just keep with myself. And I can work hard, no one will understand if I don't see it up close. I can't gossip, I can't gossip. I don't have time to do these. I invest in myself, I don't have time to think about other people's lives. I didn't understand it before, now I understand. Many people in the media and outside the media ask me 'How do you manage all this?'. My brain has become like this.

I will not miss any meeting in my office because of my shooting, I will join my meeting with break and then I will shoot again. My office work will never be delayed because of my shooting, it will never be. I never missed my office, I never missed a deadline. Also never missed a commitment. I have to work hard for that.

Q. Have you ever been emotionally broken in dealing with so much?
Rafiath Rashid Mithila:   I am very strong mentally. Maybe I didn't understand much before. Before, when I was worried or depressed about something, I could not identify it. When a child comes in the lap of a girl, that is her full time job. Giving her time after Airaa was born, then doing my job, I did everything. I was doing Masters in BRAC when Airaa was 1 year old. Besides, there are jobs. During this time I had to take care of everything, i would sometimes get anxious and depressed.

But now I can identify that, sometimes I get very anxious. That's why I have a counselor who counsels me. I didn't understand that before. Now I counsel when I am mentally anxious, I try to take a break so that I can do my work again with full vigor. I have become very programmed due to being in this practice year after year.

I always think of doing something productive, constructive. All the time it just spins in the head. When I went to Kolkata last year, in lockdown I was doing work from home office. Even then I did not start any shooting. I felt restless all the time. Then I thought, something has to be done. The roof of my house was empty, so I planted a garden there.

At one point while gardening, there were over a hundred trees. Now the trees in my garden are much taller than me. Tomatoes, green peppers, coriander leaves, onions; I didn't have to buy any of these. I have the urge to do something creative all the time. Rather I fall into tension when there is no work.

Q. You are also an artist of dance and song. Will you ever be seen in a comercial movie?
Rafiath Rashid Mithila:   Mainstream or commercial movies don't go with my mentality. That's why I never think of doing that. Now that kind of story-based work is being done, being an independent film; This kind of work attracts me more.

And I'm not actually a dance artist like that. I have learned dance for 4/5 years. I have learned Kathak, Bharat Natyam, Manipuri. Now I don't know if I can do such a comercial movie. There is a commercial song in the movie 'Amanush', where I danced lightly. I don't think I can do a commercial dance-song movie. I can't.

Q. You did Calcutta's film what is the storytelling style of directors there and what is the construction pattern test of ours?
Rafiath Rashid Mithila:  Both countries are now working on good stories, the ability to tell stories is also quite good. However, from what I saw in Calcutta, there is a tendency to work on various thriller stories based on literature and books. Even in our country, but out of the box is working, our creators also have the ability to think out of the box story.

We don't have a lot of literary work here, but our work is very unique. We need a lot more investment, we need a lot more support in technical aspects. In our country, there is less work of women-centered stories, the directors can emphasize in this direction.Q. You are endowed with many virtues. You are no longer available to sing or dance because of acting. What can be found in the front?Rafiath Rashid Mithila: Singing as a hobby, is not my profession. Occasionally playing the guitar, singing; Then maybe I will upload them. I have no plans for the song.
