The authorities of Islamic University celebrated 58th birth anniversary of Sheikh Russel, the youngest son of Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, on the campus in Kushtia on Monday amid festive mood and much enthusiasm. IU Sheikh Russel Hall organized the event on the campus in the morning. Marking the day, the university authorities placed floral wreaths at Sheikh Russel's mural, installed in front of Sheikh Russel Hall of the university. IU Vice Chancellor Professor Shaikh Abdus Salam cut a cake on the occasion. Later, a discussion program on Sheikh Russel was held there. IU VC addressed the program as the chief guest while pro-vice-chancellor Professor M Mahbubur Rahman, treasurer Professor M Alamgir Hossain Bhuiya and acting registrar M Ataur Rahman spoke as special guests. The hall provost Professor M Robiul Hossain delivered welcome speech with transport administrator and Sheikh Russel's birth anniversary celebration committee convener Professor M Anowar Hossain was in the program. Among others, IU Bangabandhu Parishad general secretary Professor M Mahbubul Arfin, assistant proctors Shahed Ahmed, Sazzadur Rahman Titu, IU BCL former student affairs secretary Mijanur Rahman Lalon and assistant general secretary Faisal Siddique Arafat were present on the occasion. On August 15, 1975, Sheikh Russel was killed along with most of his family members, including Bangabandhu, when he was just a student of class four.
