"Ashes" continues its success streak

Zunayed Evan, vocalist of the popular band of the era "Ashes". Since commencement from 2008 " Ashes'" first album " Charpoka" in 2014 draws countless number of bengali song enthusiasts from home and abroad. Zunayed Evan has made a name for himself in the world of literary novels.
His novel "Shesh" was published at Amar Ekushey Book Fair 2021. The book has already received the Best Seller Award from the country's top online book shop 'Rokomari'. Evan is now recording songs for Ashes' forthcoming album named "Ontosharshunno." Despite the enormous popularity, he was seldom discussed in traditional media. In the exclusive interview, The Asian Age's Staff Reporter Ananna Sugra explores many aspects of career with Zunayed Evan.

Q. One of the most popular singer among this generation and the man to whom the thousands of young women develop crush is Zunayed Evan. Tell me how you become Zunayed Evan?
Zunayed Evan: My musical journey commenceed from 2003 when I sang with some friends at one jungle in Chattogram. Then at 2005 I, Rafsan and Bijoy did jamming. Later at 2008 Ashes born and we flows with time.
Q. Why the name Ashes?
Zunayed Evan: Actually it does not carry any defininte and conventional explanation. I give the name Ashes from my mere liking. We usually give child a name from our likes. We do not know the proper explanation why we choose it. Instead we try to associate our names with reasons that we never thought when we receive name.

Q. What are the stuffs now you are engaged with?
Zunayed Evan:I am now busy with recent concerts that took place in Ananda Mohan College in Mymensingh and preparing myself for more. Besides singing I am writing another book "Monorother Kichu Ekta" for coming Book Fair, the last one being published in last Ekushey Book Fair with title "Shesh".
Q. Do you have plans with coming year 2022?
Zunayed Evan: We are planning to release our new albumn " Ontorsharshunno" in the coming year, already we released our three songs from this album. Hopefully our fourth song "Ami bodle jabo" will be released this October. "Ontorsharshunno" contains 8 songs. After this release we will not take break. We are also working with another albumn which contains 7 songs. The release of it is expected to be on 2023. We have 15 projects in our studio and we expect to release at least two song at one month interval.
Q. What are the qualities you expect in the new singers?
Zunayed Evan: New singers must possess the philosophy that "I should not do what I cannot never reach" for example it would be detrimental if Sachin Tendulkar want to become Rabindranath Tagore. Second thing is if he do what he desires to be then he must stick to it like a tortoise. If he shines in what he desires to be he should not look back. Third thing is he must not let his being suffer identity crisis. He should be proud of his preferences. If he loves nil doriya he should proudly admit it. He should not lost his self in other's preferences.
Q. Tell me you childhood memories apart from music?
Zunayed Evan: I used to be good student till class 8 when my position ranges from first to second then since class 9 I yielded poor form. As I was in day shift I would have access to public library where I sink on many books which gives me a different world. If you see my result card you will find I attended the class only 5 days apart from the examination and that is the reason of my poor outcome. Reading the books give me a different philosophical and psychological world and it act as an inspiration to my life.
Q. If you would not be a singer and writer what you would be?
Zunayed Evan: I never put my mind in other things apart from singing and writing. I never think of doing business or adopting other profession. I am certain that I would be a failed businessman (laughs).
Q. If you ever get chance to collaborate International artist, whom do you prefer?
Zunayed Evan: I would prefer Anjan Dutt. I have plans to work with him and also I have plan to collaborate "Fossils". I got many reviews from Kolkata and Joydevpur and hopefully we could return to the international concert soon.
Q. Who are your favourite singers?
Zunayed Evan: LRB and Nogor Baul are my favourite. Besides U2, Pink Floyd and Cage the Elephant are my favourites as well.
Q. What is your musical memories?
Zunayed Evan: Back in 2008 when I began my music career, my mother broke one of my guitar as she have idea that I adopted a wrong path. Two years later when my father went to a Bengali's residence at New York he find out the childeren on the residence watch my concert which evokes the feeling of pride to him. This is my greatest achievement even more than achieving awards and crowds.
Q.How you spend your leisure time?
Zunayed Evan: I spend 24 hours time in house. I have studio at roof with bed and little library where I play musical instruments and read books. It suprised my wife first where she wonder how a person can stay home longer. Later she joins me, played music and we have good time.
Q. If you are given supernatural power what you will do with it?
Zunayed Evan: By this supernatural power I would try to probe the inner thoughts of a person.
Q. If Aladin's Giant wants to know about your three desirs you wish to fulfill, what you want?
Zunayed Evan: I will tell to extend my life expectancy, then I will tell him to give me a healthy body like Salman Khan forever. And third I would want nothing material, I am happy with my life I lead.
Q. Describe yourself in three words?
Zunayed Evan: Focused, Adamant and Farsighted.
Q. Which places you love to visit?
Zunayed Evan: I love hanging out on sea, hills and more preferentially deserted place.
