UP polls end in peace and festivity in Sarail: All credit to local admin

Proving wrong all speculations about violence and clashes, union parishad elections in Sarail upazila of Brahmanbaria ended on November 28 in a free, fair and festive atmosphere setting a precedent of peace and harmony due to wise and pragmatic handling of local administration.  

Local people profusely praise Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) Ariful Haq Mridul, Assistant Superintendent of Police (Sarail Circle) Anisur Rahman and Officer-in-Charge (OC) Aslam Hossain for making an opportunity for them to choose their desired representatives.  

Deputy Commissioner (DC) Hayat-Ud-Dowla Khan, Superintendent of Police (SP) Mohammad Anisur Rahman and Additional Superintendent of Police (Admin & Crime) Molla Mohammad Shaheen also visited different polling centers in the upazila.  

Some 444 police personnel were deployed in 101 polling centers in nine unions of the upazila. Led by 13 executive magistrates BGB, Rab and Ansar members performed their duties.  In nine unions, there are 2,37,942 voters. 

Electors in eight unions exercised their franchise on ballot papers. Only voters of Sarail Sadar union chose their representatives through Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs).  

The unofficially declared chairmen-elect in nine unions are: Shahbazpur- Khairul Huda Chowdhury Badal (Boat), Shahjadapur- Asma Akter (Boat), Sarail Sadar- Abdul Jabbar (Motorcycle), Chunta- Humayun Kabir (Pineapple), Aruail- Mosharraf Hossain (Plough), Pakshimul- Kawser Hossain (Pineapple), Kalikachcha- Sayed Mia (Motorcycle), Noagaon- Monsur Ahmed (Spectacles) and Panishwar- Mostafizur Rahman (Motorcycle).  

Suroj Mia, a voter in Sarail Sadar union, said, “I have seen such a free and fair election for the first time in my life. I thank local administration for this.”  

After the election results came out, a harmonious environment prevails everywhere in the upazila as the winning and defeated candidates have accepted the outcomes with smiling faces.
