Barisal city declares Tk 444.1crore budget

Barisal City Corporation (BCC) on Wednesday placed a budget of Tk 444,10,58,765 for 2016-17 fiscal without imposing fresh taxes.

The 'ambitious' budget of current fiscal was declared against the revised budget of only Tk 182.74 crore against the announced Tk 423.64 crore of last 2015-16 fiscal.The proposed budget has an own income source of only Tk 118.95 crore, which would be spent for establishment cost and rest Tk 325.15 crore expected from government and non-government allocations for implementations of development projects. Ahsan Habib Kamal, BCC Mayor, after getting approval of the councilors   at morning announced the thirteenth budget of BCC at the 'Nagar Bhavan' conference room in presence of the councilors, officials of BCC and administration and journalists on Wednesday noon. Mayor Kamal, however, termed the size of the budget insufficient for providing the about 5 lakh city dwellers in 58 square kilometer areas with all necessary facilities by upgrading the services with necessary manpower, funds and master plan.

BCC Mayor demanded government grants on basis of needs, sizes of area and population and urged the city dwellers to cooperate by paying taxes regularly so that the corporation can implement the development programs of the proposed budget.

In the budget speech Mayor Kamal pointed out the health, sanitation and drainage, dilapidated conditions of city roads   and shortage of drinking water and lack of healthy entertainment facilities as the main problems for the city dwellers.
