UP Chairman, UNO inspect riverine lowlands in Daudkandi

Terrible floods are going on in Sylhet and Sunamganj. The water level of different rivers has increased gradually. As a precaution of flood in Daudkandi upazila of Cumilla, Upazila Parishad Chairman Major (retd) Mohammad Ali Sumon and Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) Mohinul Hasan inspected the riverine lowlands located in Gomti River of the upazila.They started to visit the areas through speedboat from Daudkandi old ferry terminal on Monday (June 20) noon. They visited Gouripur area of Gomti River and later to Panchgachhia and Srirai in the southern part of the upazila.During the inspection of Gomti river area, the lowland area which may be flooded has been marked. And the chairmen of the concerned union parishads were instructed to clean and prepare the disaster shelters of all the unions of the upazila.The water level of Gumti River is increasing day by day and if the water level rise like this, the low-lying areas along the river may be flooded.Among others, Upazila Parishad Vice Chairman Md Tariqul Islam Nayon, Daudkandi Municipal Panel Mayor and Cumilla Uttar Zila Sramik League President Md Rakib Uddin Ahmed Rakib and Elliotganj Uttar Union Parishad Chairman Md Lokman Hossain were present at that time.
