50,000 people waterlogged in Tangail Thousands of people in Bhuapur upazila of Tangail have been waterlogged due to the rise of water level in Jamuna river due to heavy rainfall and onrush onrush of hilly waters . -AA

Thousands of people in Bhuapur upazila of Tangail are spending their days in panic as various places of arrow protection work have collapsed due to the erosion in Jamuna River.According to WDB, the water of Jamuna river was flowing 47 cm over the danger marks. Geo-bags have been dumped at various locations on emergency basis to prevent river erosion. At least 50,000 people of the upazila have been waterlogged due to rise of water level in Jamuna river. During a ground visit, it has been found that people living in Gobindashi, Gabsara, Nikrail and Arjuna unions of the upazila were found marooned among the floodwater.

Due to the rise of water in Jamuna river, new areas are being flooded daily. Hundreds of acres of croplands of jute and Aush paddy on the banks of Jamuna in different upazilas of Tangail have been gone under flood water.  Fishes of many ponds were washed away by the flood.People of most of the flood-affected areas of the upazila are facing serious crisis of safe drinking water.  Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) Ishrat Zahan said, "I have visited some flood-affected unions of the upazila. Allotment for the flood-hit people from the authorities concerned has been sought.""We didn't get any allotment yet. As soon as we get allotment, we will distribute it to the affected people", the UNO added.
