Bangladeshi-born British cuisines specialist Enam Ali passed away in London in the early hours of Sunday. He was 63 years old.

Enam Ali founded the British Curry Awards, Spice Business Magazine and Le Raj Restaurant. Afterwards the British Curry Award became famous beyond the United Kingdom.  Hundreds of Bangladeshis got jobs in the British curry industry thanks to Enam Ali.

Enam Ali was born in Sylhet. In 1974, he left for the United Kingdom to study law but decided to pursue a degree in hospitality and management. While studying he worked part-time for the Taj Mahal restaurant group.

Over the last 30 years, Enam relentlessly campaigned, represented and supported the British curry industry.

Foreign Minister Dr. AK Abdul Momen expressed profound grief at the death of Enam Ali. In a condolence message Dr. AK Abdul Momen stated that Enam Ali's death is an irreparable loss for the Bangladeshi community in Britain. Enam Ali made huge contributions for the betterment of expatriate Bangladeshis in the United Kingdom, the Foreign Minister further said.

Moreover, Enam Ali elevated Bangladesh's status in Britain with his merit and skills, Dr. AK Abdul Momen added.
