Awami League presidium member and deputy leader of the Jatiya Sangsad Syeda Sajeda Chowdhury passed away on Sunday night. She was 87.Sajeda breathed her last at 11:40 pm at Combined Military Hospital in Dhaka. Prime Minister's special assistant and Awami League office secretary Biplab Barua confirmed it. The deputy leader of the parliament, also Faridpur-2 MP, was hospitalized with post-Covid-19 complications two weeks ago. She underwent a bypass surgery in 2015.
President M Abdul Hamid and Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, among others, mourned the demise of this veteran Awami League leader.Born in 1935, Sajeda became the deputy leader of the parliament in 2019 for the third consecutive term.She was a Language Movement veteran and one of the organizers of the Bangladesh's Liberation War.Sajeda Chowdhury served as environment and forest minister and was awarded the Swadhinata Padak in 2010.Bangamata Parishad presidium member Dr Jesmin Chowdhury mourned the death of Syeda Sajeda Chowdhury, who was the president of the organization.
