10,000 Sheikh Russel Digital Labs to be established

 
Speakers at a seminar on Wednesday said some 10,000 Sheikh Russel Digital Labs will be established in the country to connect people digitally.

They also said that the journey towards the vision of 'Digital Bangladesh' started on 12 December, 2008, which is no longer a dream but a reality in 'Vision 2021'.

The seminar was organized by Information and Communication Technology (ICT) division of the government on "Role of 'Establishing Digital Connectivity (EDC)' Project in the advancement of 'Smart Bangladesh'.

Senior Secretary of ICT Division NM Zeaul Alam PAA was present on the seminar as chief guest while former special assistant to Prime Minister Selima Khatun and additional secretary of ICT division Dr.KhandokerAzizul Islam as special guest. The seminar was chaired by the Director General of Department of Information and Communication Technology (DoICT) Md. Mustafa Kamal. 

While addressing the seminar NM Zeaul Alam PAA said that ICT infrastructure development already has been beneficial to the general people of Bangladesh especially amid Pandemic which is absolutely undeniable.

"Recently, Prime Minister sheikh Hasina has announced 'Vision 2041' of 'Smart Bangladesh' to speed up the progress of the development of Bangladesh and we are working to achieve the targets of 'Vision 2041'", he added.  He also said that in order to implement this vision, the Digital Connectivity (EDC) project has been launched to expand the utilization of ICT in various fields up to the grassroots level.

In his speech, secretary said that we have undertaken a project-Establishment of Digital Connectivity (EDC).

This project aims to improve government efficiency, strengthen physical infrastructure at the grassroots level, create talent, prepare for the fourth industrial revolution, popularize people's digital lives and apply ICT opportunities in people's lives to benefit from ICT development.

Under EDC project, 1,09,244 internet connectivity at marginal level will be established. 10,000 Sheikh Russell Digital Labs will be set up. 57 specialized labs will be established for future industrial revolution centers.

555 Joy-D-Set Centers will be set up. 10 villages will be made into digital villages. CRVS: Central data center; software platform; 17,314 service delivery devices and 5,500 enrollment devices will be distributed. 21-storied Digital Literacy Centers will be set up.
