Passports to be renewed according to NID cards
 
The government has informed that from now on passports will be renewed and corrected on the basis of national identification (NID) cards. Directives have been circulated for reissuance of passports at home and abroad in terms of NID cards in case of editing information of passport-holders.

A circular to this end was uploaded on the website of the Security Services Division of Home Ministry on Wednesday.

The circular of the Security Services Division states that Bangladeshi citizens both living in Bangladesh and abroad from now on will have to get their passports renewed and corrected in light of their NID cards like changes in names, father's name, mother's name, age etcetera. Birth registration certificates will be considered for underage applicants. Educational certificates like SSC, JSC, Open University, JDC, Technical Education may have to be considered in such cases.

In case of corrections, written applications will have to be submitted. Applicants will have to fill out an oath statement with their signatures. Gazettes issued on 28 April and 9 December and 3 November 2022 have been nullified, the latest circular adds.
