'Muktijoddha Smriti Jadughar' to be built in Daudkandi

'Muktijoddha Smriti Jadughar' to be built in Daudkandi

Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman's historic speech that delivered at a mammoth rally in the then "Race Course Maidan" was essentially a declaration of independence. In the face of the threat of machine gun of Pakistani army in front of more than 10 lakh people, Bangabandhu declared that day in a fiery voice- "Ebarer sangram amader muktir sangram, ebarer sangram swadhinatar sangram" (The struggle this time is for our emancipation, the struggle this time is for our independence).

Responding to Bangabandhu's eloquent poetic speech, millions of freedom-loving Bengalis rushed into the Liberation War to break the shackles of subjugation and taste the freedom. After a nine month long brutal and bloody Liberation War, a red-green flag won an independent land on December 16, 1971, in return for the loss of 3 million heroic martyrs and countless mothers and sisters.

Among them, Cumilla's Daudkandi upazila has a different history during the Liberation War. To preserve this history, a 'Muktijoddha Smriti Jadughar' is going to be built at RHD Dakbangla (Zarif Ali Shishu Park) in the upazila after 51 years of great independence at the directive of Major General (Retd) Shubid Ali Bhuiyan, member of parliament for Cumilla-1 constituency and chairman of the parliamentary standing committee on the Ministry of Defense and under the supervision of Daudkandi upazila parishad chairman Major (retd.) Mohammad Ali Sumon.

The state and government have been honoring the heroic freedom fighters since our independence. However, to preserve the memory of the local heroic freedom fighters, to convey the heroic history of freedom to the future generations, for the first time in the 51 years of independence, Daudkandi upazila parishad chairman Major (retd) Sumon, is already preparing to build a liberation museum and library inside the old Dakbangla.

In this regard, former commander of upazila heroic freedom fighter Sohrab Hossain said, "I welcome such initiative of upazila parishad chairman Major (retd) Mohammad Ali Sumon. It is a matter of honor for the heroic freedom fighters."

Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) Md Mohinul Hasan said, "Heroic freedom fighters are nation's proud son. Local heroic freedom fighters have demanded the construction of a liberation war memorial museum in the municipality for a long time. Through the dedicated efforts of Major (retd) Mohammad Ali, we have also got support from the district administration to build this museum."

Upazila Muktijoddha Projonmo League president Md Sohel Rana said, "I express my gratitude to the Prime Minister Jananetri Sheikh Hasina's confidant Cumilla-1 MP Major General (Retd) Shubid Ali Bhuiyan sir and his privileged son, my leader Major (retd) Sumon sir to build a Muktijoddha Smriti Jadughar to inform the right history of great Liberation War to present generation."
