Irregularities alleged against BAU VC

 
Allegations of nine irregularities including misuse of power have been brought against Professor Dr Lutful Hassan, vice chancellor of Bangladesh Agricultural University (BAU). Professor Dr MAM Yahia Khandaker, president of a portion of pro-government Gonotantrik Shikkhok Forum, and Dr Purba Islam, general secretary of the forum, made the allegations in a written statement at a press conference on Monday (December 26).  

The nine allegations are- to conduct administration by infiltrators, dishonest and corrupted people; irregularity and perversion in education; failure in implementing development project proposal for Tk 669 crore; absence of vice chancellor at university campus violating recruitment rules; retardation in digitalization and annual performance agreement (APA); misuse of VC's power  in using residence; irregularity in house allotment; culture of injustice and to create division in pro-liberation organization Gonotantrik Shikkhok Forum.

Gonotantrik Shikkhok Forum General Secretary Dr Purba Islam said, "We don't have any complaint against any individual or organization. Our complaint is against irregularity, perversion and misuse of power."

Professor Dr Md Abu Hadi Noor Ali Khan, president of other portion of Gonotantrik Shikkhok Forum, claimed that the allegations made against the VC are baseless. They are making these allegations as the election of the forum is knocking at the door.

Regarding the allegations, BAU Vice Chancellor Dr Lutful Hassan said, "No irregularity or corruption is taken place in development work of the university as it has been done in a transparent way."The implementation of the DPP was based on the rate of 2014. There is a gap of 21 percent in 2018 rate with that rate. Now, the proposal has been sent for the rate of 2022. The work of the project will start on approval from the ECNEC, for which the time has also been extended. In this case, the work rate of Tk 669 crore will increase to over Tk 900 crore. Regarding the recruitment of teachers, the VC said, "Teachers have been recruited on merit. Transfer of teachers was done according to the rules. None of my relatives got job in the university."

While talking to leaders of the forum, they claimed that these allegations have been made for the interest of the university. It has no connection with the upcoming election.
