'Journalists are country's constant guard'
 
Journalists should make constructive criticism on activities of public representatives as they are constant guard of the country, said Bangladesh Press Council Chairman Justice Nizamul Huq Nasim.

He came up with the remarks while addressing the 42nd induction and founding anniversary of Chattogram Metropolitan Jatiya Sangbadik Sangstha at a convention hall in the port city on Friday.

Marking the day, a cake was cut to celebrate the occasion. Later, a discussion was held at the conference hall.

Speaking the occasion, Justice Nizamul Huq Nasim said, "Journalists are associates of policy makers. They are like shadow of public representatives. Journ-alists help policy makers by showing them pros and cons of a matter."

He urged the journalists to work for people's welfare with informative and constructive criticism of public representatives.

Veteran journalist and Jatiya Sangbad Sangstha Founder Altaf Hossain said, "Journalists should exercise their profession with facts."

Chaired by Chattogram Metropolitan Jatiya Sangbadik Sangstha President KM Rubel, Finance Ministry Additional Secretary Pirjada Shahidul Harun, Jatiya Sangbad Sangstha Central Committee Vice-President Alamgir Goni, Secretary General Muhammad Kamrul Islam were present as special guests.

Chattogram Metro-politan Jatiya Sangbadik Sangstha General Secretary Monjur Ahmed Sohel delivered the welcome speech.  Later, Bashir Ahmed Rubel, a local journalist, was awarded with a special crest for outstanding contribution during Covid-19.

Members of the organization along with other local and social elites were present at the program.
