Workshop on sustainable development held at BARD
 
A workshop titled "Achieving Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs): Financial Inclusion and Rural Transformation" was held at Bangladesh Rural Development Academy (BARD) in Cumilla on Sunday.

Dr Manoj Nardeosingh, Secretary General of African- Asian Rural Development Organization (AARDO), attended the opening ceremony of the 12-daylong workshop as the chief guest. 

A total of 17 senior officials from 12 countries including China, Ghana, India, Jordan, Kenya, Namibia, Oman, Pakistan, Sudan, Tunisia, Zambia, and Bangladesh participated in the workshop.

Speaking the occasion Dr Manoj Nardeosingh said as such international and regional workshop is effective and helpful, the AARDO is regularly organizing the workshop with the representatives of the member countries at BARD.

He expected that the relationship between AARDO and BARD will be stronger in the future.
Through this training program, there will be an exchange of experiences which will be useful to the trainees, he added.

He also thanked the BARD authorities and the Ministry of Local Government, Rural Development and Cooperatives, Government of Bangladesh for organizing the workshop.

BARD Director General Dr Abdul Karim presided over the inaugural ceremony.

In his speech, Dr Abdul Karim said, "From the workshop, the trainees will be able to adopt proper action plans for the inclusion of poor people in financial institutions through mutual interaction which will help poverty alleviation in their respective countries."

The BARD has been working through cooperatives since the sixties and continues to do so to ensure financial inclusion among the rural population, the BARD director general added.

The workshop's main objective is to enhance the capacity of policy-makers and financial service providers of the member states of the African-Asian Rural Development Organization (AARDO) to adopt and implement financial inclusion programs in rural areas in view of achieving the Sustainable Development Goals.

BARD Director (Training) and Course Coordinator Abdullah Al Mamun delivered the welcome speech while BARD Director General Dr Abdul Karim is working as course director of the workshop.BARD Joint Director Azma Mahmuda and Assistant Director Anas Al Islam are working as associate workshop director and assistant workshop director respectively.
