Bangladesh has entered the era of Paralympics archery. A new horizon in the sports arena has opened up through this phenomenon. State Minister for Youth and Sports Zahid Ahsan Russell inaugurated para-archery in Bangladesh on Monday at a hotel in the capital.
Zahid Ahsan Russell said, “It is a historic moment for Bangladesh. Our players with special needs will be able to bring honour for the country by performing brilliantly in archery in international tournaments I believe.”
Zahid Ahsan Russell stated, “Our players have so far won 216 gold medals, 109 silver medals and 84 bronze medals from Special Olympics. Bangladesh disabled cricket team participated in 8 tournaments and became champions in all the contests.”
Moreover, Bangladesh became champions in Physically Challenged Cricket Tournament 2022. Bangladesh won 137 medals including 19 gold medals in South Asian Games. Bangladesh has also achieved 10 gold medals in archery.
The State Minister informed that a stadium is being constructed on 4.16 acres land for handicapped players at a cost of around 14 crore taka besides Parliament.
Secretary to Ministry of Youth and Sports Dr. Muhiuddin Ahmed, Additional Secretary (Sports) Nazrul Islam, Bangladesh Archery Federation President Lieutenant General (Retd) Mainul Islam and general secretary Kazi Rajib Uddin Ahmed Chapal were present on the occasion.
